We’re pleased to announce that the long awaited Fantasy Football Forum is now open for business! You’ll have to register with it separately (for technical reasons beyond my immediate control!), but hopefully this isnt too much of an inconvenience.
If someone else could kick-off the banter that would be great, as I’m not very good at these things!
If you’ve got any suggestions for improvement of the website, or FFL in general, now is your chance to voice them.

This from one of our most fervent and committed managers
As the not-so-secret alias of bottom team (Team) Popo, I thought it was my duty to establish the team of the tourney (since it is easy to do, unlike a regular season with transfers)
Team of the tourney: 4-3-3
Ricardo Portugal 3.3 38
Grosso Italy 3.0 42
Cannavaro Italy 3.8 35
Sagnol France 3.9 29
Zambrotta Italy 3.7 31
Schweinsteiger Germany 3.5 36
Pirlo Italy 3.5 33
Vieira France 3.8 28
Henry France 8.5 32
Klose Germany 6.8 48
Podolski Germany 3.9 35
total cost 47.7M netted 387 points. Not a samba sand dancer in sight.
The 4-4-2 team of the tourney was obviously not that different, with only Kaka replacing Henry, netting 382 points but costing only 43.5M
quite interesting to some. not so to others.
other interesting analysis carried out during the world cup:
puma won the shirts representation prize, making 12 out of the 32 teams shirts. second was nike with 8, then adidas with 6, then umbro and lotto with 2 each, finally marathon and juma with 1 each. How the mighty umbro have fallen…not to mention some former glories such as diadora, hummell, kappa…Kate was rivetted by this analysis, I think I did it while watching holland v Serbia. Kate gouged out her own eyes in despair.
I didnt mean it and unlike Zizou I do regret it. It seems that as in a number of World Cup competitions, the hosts have won. Thankfully there are no riches to behold for the winner. If its any consolation I was booing Bastian the Schwein(steiger) on Saturday night. Winning would not look good and perhaps it hasn’t, but hopefully you’ve all enjoyed it anyway. In the interests of good taste and prudence I shall of course limit the trophy expenditire
On a personal level its been amazing to have some many entrants for a free comp, and hopefully we can hang on to a large portion of you for the premiership season - DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED IN NEXT FEW WEEKS. Just how many of the World Cup performers will make their way to our screens for ridiculous sums? I would have hoped to get all the updates done a bit quicker but alas time has held me back a tad - it will be more efficient during the main season, so please come back and I can guarantee that Winning would not look good will not win again.
The prize of free entry for next season must be deferred in all fairness to the extremely gallant runners up, Deen’s Duds who sneaked it ahead of Sedgewickland Shambles, Askee’s Eleven, Believe in What and Dave Narey’s Toepoke XI (we hate Jimmy Hill). Notable mentions for the other teams with Schweinsteiger (top midfielder in the comp) go to Reyes Dropped at Last (8th), The Mothership, Alice Cooper’s Pooper Scoopers and Adriano + Shevy = Goals (but not many of them)! Have a look at the league table at your leisure - Team Popo Deco Skoko Bravo were comfortably and fittingly rooted and you’ll see Where’s Gary Neville also very fittingly in at 66, with at least another 2 years of ‘hurt’ in prospect!
Tom’s Tips - World Cup Time
After a fierce competition its Mark Donohoe who will be bringing home the bacon with £20 in his pocket and free entry to 06/07 FFL comp. £20 worth of bacon should be just about enough for one of Mark’s fry-ups. Well done Mark
Finally - Some dedications
Congratulations to Mr Steven Creanor (manager of Creanzo World Wiz) who by this time tomorrow will have a Mrs Creanor in tow -all the best from us all here and belated website congrats to Eddie Quinn & Nichola (Quinn of ze North) who completed the maritals only 4 weeks ago and to a future wedder, manager of Wunderbar - Chris Laughlin who got engaged a few weeks ago.
Best wishes to them and all managers and hopefully we’ll have you with us again - thanks for listening!

Italy 1 France 1 (Italy won 5-3 on pens)
And so, Italy deservedly won the World Cup despite a cagey performance and eventual penalty shoot-out. One pretty despicable act marred the final though, completely unnecessary and a real blight on the game, that is Lennart Johannson taking away the World Cup so that those crazy Italian boys couldnt touch it before their captain. And as for Zizou, he is sorry but doesn’t regret it - yes I’m confused as well. But his best player of the tournament award has been sullied although it would be immeasurable sensationalism to suggest that his career’s work has been wiped out due to one stupid act. Must admit I thought Italy would bottle the penalties but the mark of a well taken penalty is that the keeper never gets close, and neither keeper touched any of the 9 taken. Buffon didnt get anythIng on Zidane’s early penalty which he cheekily chipped off the underside of the bar and Barthez tried his hardest to get nothing on Materazzi’s equalising header. Not a bad final, not a classic and only partially ruined by that fat Swede.
Goals: Materazzi, Zidane
Assists: Pirlo, Malouda
YC: Zambrotta. Sagnol, Diarra, Malouda
RC: Zidane
MoM: Thuram
Penalties scored: De Rossi, Del Piero, Pirlo, Materazzi, Grosso. Wiltord, Abidal, Sagnol

Germany 3 Portugal 1
The coveted bronze medal, competed for 4 years ago by Turkey and South Korea - please let me know if you sat through that in 2002, you deserve a medal! The medals went to Germany who were curiously right up for it, especially Bastian Schweinsteiger. Shouts of dont shoot ya Bastian were heard as Young Effenberg arrowed in 2 great goals and assisted for Petit’s own goal. The reason? My lofty position and my hope that it would not be like that at the end of the competition. One of the goals was superb and the other swerved about but ultimately made Ricardo look like a flapper. Nuno Gomes pulled one back with an unusual diving header from the last Luis Figo cross in international football.
Goals: Schweinsteiger 2, Petit o.g. Gomes
Assists: Schweinsteiger. Figo
YC:Schweinsteiger, Frings. Costa, Costinha, Ferreira
RC:
MoM: Schweinsteiger
