Welcome to the new season!

Hello and welcome to all our managers for this season of FFL . I must admit to being pleasantly surprised at the amount of interest we have strongarmed, sorry, generated! With a massive 114 confirmed entrants. For the statistically minded I can confirm that this is 57 from last year’s entrants and a incredible new 57 managers (ok well some were in for 2003/04 and ‘missed’ last year) – it is to the new managers that I extend a further welcome and an introduction to what comes next.

The Updates

Every Wednesday night I will send out a review of the past week’s Premiership games and more importantly the relative FFL performance, this might be slightly later in the first week as we get going but after that it will run like clockwork (hopefully).

The Players

For some early info – the most popular players picked by FFL managers include Cech , Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and Henry – even Mystic Meg could have predicted that. But there are also some surprises in there – look out for plenty more player stats as the season progresses.

The Teams

Now you’ve picked your teams, you can see your team through My Team (once you have logged in). Unhappy with your team’s performance or one of your top guns sold/injured? Not to worry, make a transfer through the team page, but beware, you only have 11 for the entire season so don’t be too free and easy with them.

The Minileagues

These are currently being developed. But do us a favour, if you want one or think you have met the conditions, let me know who would be in it. So far we will have a Ladies, KPMG, National, PwC, Citigroup, Standard Life, Donohoes, McKies, Mullan/Martin, McAuslin (even though there are only 4 – some of my top supporters!). There are bound to be more, so just drop us a mail. No monetary prizes but certainly some prestige and bragging rights at least.

The Cup/Plate

Two separate knockout competitions will run with 57 teams in each – this to be decided by an initial knock-out round, winners into The Cup, losers into The Plate. The cup will therefore have a better prize (but not by much).

The Prizes

Oh aye, now you’re interested! Well with 114 entrants, we are looking at £570 entrance money. More info on how we’ll collect that in the coming weeks, but by all means give it to me next time you see me or one of my helpers. My early thoughts on the breakdown of cash are:

League
Champion £150
Runner up £ 50
3rd Place £ 25

Leader after 1st half of season (likely to be 31 dec) £ 25
2nd half winner (from 1 Jan) £ 25

Manager of the Month
£10 per month - £100

Cups
Cup winner £100
Plate winner £75
That’s a total of £550. I’ll hold £20 to put towards trophies (last year cost £45) which will hopefully be supplemented by massive amazon/ebay earnings which will also be used to up prize money.

Manager of the Month prize will possibly come in the form of an amazon voucher or something like that in the interests of encouraging use of the links.

The Extras

Stay tuned for an ante-post competition, courtesy of Mr Simpson (tomstips@simonsffl.com) and other competitions to be run throughout the year, some of them will include incentives and prizes.

And that’s about it – stick around for the first update and any ideas/thoughts, let us know!
Simon

Welcome to Simon’s Fantasy Football League 2005-06

Hello all,

We’re back after a richly deserved summer break refreshed, mildly tanned and raring to go for a whole new season of the Premiership and general good natured abuse, it can only be the return of FFL . Now in our third season of operation we hope to make this season more interactive and even more enjoyable than the previous campaigns and hopefully make a few of you a few bob in the process.

The Mailing List

Those on the mailing list include last year’s managers (all 72 of you), managers from the 2003/04 and Euro 2004 events (please come back!) and a host of folk whose emails I have either been passed, cc’d or just have lying around. Obviously the mailing list is not it, in terms of invitations, so please spread the word to absolutely anyone you think might be interested. More people in, the more prizes we’ll generate and hopefully the more spin offs.

This year we are particularly pushing the mini-leagues, so please encourage family/colleagues/friends to join and if there is a minimum of 5 entrants and a logical theme (workplace/family etc), we’ll set up the league for you. Keeps the interest going if you can hammer your colleagues even if doing not so well in the main league.

The Website

The all important address is www.simonsffl.com , please use this to view, register and submit your teams - any problems or queries should be directed to my website wizard Mr Iain Mullan.

If you can’t access the net, don’t worry, you will also of course submit your teams in any format you like to this address or to simon@simonsffl.com

The Deadline

Teams need to be submitted on the website or emailed to simon@simonsffl.com by close of play Friday 12 August. I will also accept them by lunchtime on the Saturday morning.

You may pick a team on the website as soon as you like and make unlimited free changes to it prior to the beginning of the season, all with just a few clicks!

The Cup

There is also a Cup and Plate competition which was a real success last year. This consists of an initial knock out phase, mini-leagues and a final knock out stage – plenty of chances to keep the interest going.

The Fees & Prizes

Nominal fee of £5 to enter – I shall collect this once the season gets started. We will be accepting payments through the website using Paypal, but other forms of payment will also be possible. This includes entry to league and cup and any minileagues . Prizes depend on number of entrants. Last year we had 72 entrants with a total of £425 paid out in prizes split between the competitions, plus some cash on trophies. Do the maths and you’ll see we generated extra cash through Amazon and Ebay affiliate programs – over £100.

Remember all money in is money out, no profit here.

The Affiliates

No, not a dodgy credit card, but your chance to make some cash for the website. Link through the Amazon and Ebay links which are soon to be revived on the website and do your stuff - we get 5% cash back on all amazon purchases, 6p on a Ebay bid and £6 for a every whole new Ebay user (note you don’t have to buy, just bid). I’ll keep you updated through the season on how we’re doing with that stuff.

The Weekly Email

I send a weekly email (generally on Wednesday nights – this is usually subject to champions league games but this seems a forlorn dream after Wednesday night’s humiliation & working away) with some chat, a review of the games and the scores and table, this will also appear on the website.
Remember the deadline is Friday 12 August – so the very best of luck and I’ll be in touch soon and in the meantime, any questions let me know.

Cheers,
Simon
